From summer suits to winter overcoats
By Jennie on 5th August, 2013

At this time of year we start to see a real shift with what is being ordered or coming back to us after a fitting. It might be the middle of summer but we are often working on garments that will be worn in 6 months time. At the beginning of the year we saw a lot of lightweight suits, and now it is the time for heavier suits, overcoats and smoking jackets.

This week I‘m just finishing off a morning coat that has had a fitting. They can be and are a big take on especially if the customer is a big build. Tailoring a garment that is not only large but also has a skirt, it is tricky to work with all of it on the board. Having said that, I really enjoy working with formalwear because it is more of a challenge than a suit.

Next week I will be working on two smoking jackets. They are always a take on, especially when they have a shawl collar. But again, I really like the challenge, so I’m really looking forward to making a start on them.
