"Wool is not only one of the oldest fibres known to mankind, it is also one of the most beneficial"

The Campaign for Wool

The Campaign for Wool is a cross-sector initiative led by its global patron King Charles III. Established in 2010, the campaign’s mission is to support the Sustainability among sectors and to promote wool as a natural, renewable and biodegradable alternative to synthetic fibres. Encouraging collaboration between an international community of woolgrowers, major fashion designers, retailers, manufacturers, artisans and interior designers, the Campaign has been instrumental in promoting the sustainability, educating consumers about the versatility of wool, and reconnecting them with its myriad uses. Anderson & Shepard is thoroughly proud to be a part of this campaign by participating in various events organised by Campaign for Wool and using only responsibly sourced wool in production of our bespoke men’s suits and clothing.

The Dumfries House Wool Conference

The Dumfries House Wool Conference was held in September 2016 and was organised by Campaign for Wool. It gathered the key members of the wool industry across fashion, interior, manufacturing and retail to discuss the sustainability challenges currently facing the industry and how to approach the future. His Royal Highness Prince Charles, Patron of the Campaign for Wool, delivered important messages on the importance of wool, as did other key speakers and wool advocates. Our Coat Making Apprentice, Liberty Clayton, made a tweed field jacket that was displayed at the conference.

Sheep on the Row

Sheep on the Row first took place in October 2010, and then again in 2015, to mark the start of Wool Week. The Campaign for Wool’s aim is to promote and celebrate the natural, renewable and biodegradable qualities of wool and to showcase the close relationship between wool and the menswear industry. Both events saw Savile Row transformed into a green pasture, with 30 Bowmont Merino and Exmoor sheep grazing.  Two barns were erected to focus on the landscapes of the main wool-growing countries: Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the UK. Anderson & Sheppard joined other bespoke tailoring houses to dress a model in fine woollen cloth. In 2015, we made an ivory pea coat with a half belt and box pleat at the back and a quilted lining.  The cloth is Holland & Sherry 983009 27 oz. Our model also wore moss green Harris Tweed trousers with cross pockets, a hip pocket with flap and a button fly. The cloth is Holland & Sherry 892027 16/17 oz.
