A very happy New Year from everyone at Anderson & Sheppard.

At the end of this year, we had the pleasure of welcoming Thomas Whitehead, Principal Character Artist of The Royal Ballet, to 32 Old Burlington Street.

Thomas Whitehead is a Principal Character Artist of The Royal Ballet. Originally from West Yorkshire, he trained at The Royal Ballet Upper School and graduated into the Company in 1994, promoted to Soloist, 2002, and Principal Character Artist, 2017.

His roles with the Company include Von Rothbart (Swan Lake), Drosselmeyer (The Nutcracker), Dr. Coppélius (Coppélia), Tybalt (Romeo and Juliet), Man (Las hermanas), Husband (The Invitation), Prince Gremin (Onegin), Step-Sister (Cinderella), Widow Simone (La Fille mal gardée), Gamache (Don Quixote), José (Mats Ek’s Carmen), Monsieur G.M. and Gaoler (Manon), Emperor Franz Josef (Mayerling), Hilarion (Giselle), Catallabutte (The Sleeping Beauty), Bottom (The Dream), Husband (Anastasia) and many more.

In 2006/7 Tom starred in the leading role in the world tour of Matthew Bourne’s iconic all male ballet, Swan Lake.

He has created roles for choreographers such as Wayne McGregor, Liam Scarlett, Carlos Acosta, Christopher Wheeldon, Hofesh Shechter, Javier De Frutos and Kim Brandstrup.

As a qualified breathwork facilitator, Tom works as a coach to the Company dancers to improve their physical and mental wellbeing. He also enjoys working closely with The Royal Opera House Learning and Participation Department, with a great passion for bringing dance to the wider community.
