OUR NEW OFF-CUT TWEED - WOVEN ON A HATTERSLEY LOOM IN SCOTLAND
We are pleased to introduce our new Off-Cut House Special Tweed, a unique collaboration blending sustainability, craftsmanship, and tradition.
The latest addition to our House Special Tweed collection is part of a unique circular initiative promoting recycled waste in bespoke tailoring, spearheaded by Su Thomas at Eco-Luxe.
Designed by Managing Director Colin Heywood and Sam Goates, this tweed is woven from recycled textile waste from Anderson & Sheppard. Our cutting team always take care to produce very little cloth waste and the scraps of cloth left after cutting are known as off-cuts. They are collected at 32 Old Burlington Street, and sent to Camira Yarns’ iinouiio project in Huddersfield, where they are reprocessed into new yarn at their new, ground-breaking facility, using a circular system that began in the UK over 200 years ago.
Crossing the border into Scotland, the yarn is woven into tweed by Sam Goates at Woven in the Bone, an artisan mill on the coast in Buckie. Sam uses a historic ‘clickety-clack’ Victorian Hattersley loom, powered by pedals. The woven tweed cloth is finished in Galashiels at Schofield Dyers & Finishers, est. 1958, who provide specialist finishing for tweed. Every step of this process remains within the United Kingdom.
This unique, environmentally friendly fabric travels back to London and is now available at our bespoke shop, where it is displayed for customers to experience the colours and feel firsthand.
Follow the journey from our cutting room floor to the front shop by watching the short film, produced and directed by Lloyd Almond.
